“It was interesting to see and to compare how the residues are treated in the States in contrast with other places in the world [where I’ve worked]”

Pablo Rasgado used his time at RAIR to carry out a series of material interrogations through the development of sculptures, bi-dimensional pieces, and reconfigured billboards. To produce this entirely new body of work, Rasgado focused on collecting demolition waste like tile floors, hardwood floors, faux wood grain paneling, shingled rooftops, and asphalt remnants from a parking lot. Using crates that he found during his residency, Rasgado packed and shipped the new pieces to Miami. The resulting body of work was presented at Piero Atchugarry Gallery, Miami in October, 2019 for the solo exhibition When the symbols shatter.
