“On some level, trash belongs to no one, because it is discarded. But on the other hand, trash belongs to everyone, because it is returned into a world that we all occupy.
— Joshua Marquez

During his time at RAIR Joshua created an in progress project called “Music For Wasted Space”, which explores the sonic possibilities of discarded and wasted materials found on the site. Using a wide range recorded sounds taken from his time at RAIR, Joshua composed soundscapes, melodies, textures, and harmonies which were then played and performed from the inside of a dumpster using small electronic devices. This performance transformed the large dumpsters typically used for holding waste, into speakers. Through these cut and collaged musical soundscapes, Joshua aims to find music in everyday sounds which give new life to wasted materials and overlooked spaces.
