Lauren Ruth

In her previous work, Lauren’s projects have used banners and flags while exploring the functions related to these materials. At RAIR in 2012 she had access to very similar materials but on a vastly larger scale. She would not have been able to afford the cost of such materials if she had to purchase them. These materials in abundance, along with access to a forklift and a wide open yard, allowed her to expand her work in ways she otherwise would have never been able to. She also gained experience in learning about the industrial waste stream and potential future sources for the materials she was working with. After her project at RAIR, Lauren went on to a residency at Ox Bow where she is now sourcing and working with similar industrial waste materials, proving that her experience has made her think differently about what we consider to be trash, where it comes from and where it goes.
